FashionThe Weight of a Coat

Issue 07 — what remains after the print
01AFTERPRESS began in a borrowed basement with a risograph and a box of unsigned contact sheets. Seven issues later, the method is unchanged.
02This issue follows residue: the crease left in silk, the shadow on a staircase, the second exposure that refused to fade.

Three decades of negatives, recovered from a closed studio in Antwerp. We printed forty frames by hand for the first time — silver, fibre paper, no retouching.
“Tailoring is architecture you can walk out of.”
Shot over a single afternoon on the Barbican’s east stairwell, this sequence treats the coat as a second building — its seams answering the board-marked concrete, its hem cutting the light the way a balcony cuts the sky. We kept the shadows uncorrected. In 1983 the cloth was made to resist weather; four decades later it resists the camera, holding its shape long after the figure inside has stepped out of frame.

Four printed issues a year. 240 pages, uncoated stock, shipped flat in a black sleeve.
